Sleep Solutions for Night Shift Workers?

Consistency, if possible is the solution for people who work night shifts. Ideally the key is to maintain your normal sleep routine from your work days on your days off. For example, if you usually wake up at 6pm for work and go to sleep at 7am, try to replicate this pattern on your days off.

With families, children, partners, flatmates etc, this can be difficult to achieve. This is why it is crucial that you instil the importance of your sleep patterns to them and that they ensure they understand they should not waken you unless there’s a dire emergency!

The two biggest killers of sleep for night shift workers hands down are NOISE and LIGHT! The best solutions for shift work are earplugs, a white noise machine and a sleep mask!

If you are not on call, it is a great idea to switch off your phone while you sleep.
